Welcome to Drying Days, a new outlet for my postcard painting practice.
My name is Ed Watson, I am an artist, primarily, oil painter living near Chicago, IL. I enjoy the beauty found in everyday moments objects and places. Much of my work is a simplified realism.
I began blogging in 2007 having heard of this new thing called daily painting. At the time, I was a few years removed from school, and rather isolated as an artist in the suburbs. In daily painting, I found a bustling community of artists hungry to learn, share new ideas and push boundaries. It was a wonderfully explorative time. I learned so much from watching everyone else and fighting my own battles with these little paintings. I could never quite stick with it as a daily practice. Eventually, I’d could often go months with out a post.
But, I found something in doing these little paintings that keeps calling to me. It’s some of the most honest painting I do. Most of this work is completed alla prima, from life and with little to no preparatory work. It’s just raw observation, and with each one I learn a little more about how to perceive the world.
